Preventing Problems Before They Start
The health of your teeth and mouth is very important to the well-being of your entire body, and while routine brushing and flossing at home is necessary to keep your smile looking its best, visiting your dentist for a comprehensive exam and cleaning is essential.
The American Dental Association recommends that you visit your dentist every six months to ensure your teeth stay healthy and your smile stays beautiful.
By routinely seeing your dentist for exams and cleanings, you can:
- Prevent tooth decay, gum disease, and bad breath
- Save money by avoiding costly and extensive dental procedures
- Keep your teeth white by reducing staining from food and drinks
- Shorten the time spent in your dentist’s office
- Have a smile that will last a lifetime
The Exam
During your exam, your dentist will thoroughly examine your teeth and gums for signs of tooth decay, gum disease, and other health problems.
Your dentist may also want to take X-rays to see what is happening beneath the surface of your teeth and gums.
Whether these X-rays are traditional or digital, the images provided will help your dentist discover dental issues not visible to the naked eye.
Professional Cleanings
Your dental hygienist will begin your cleaning by exploring the surface of your teeth to determine if you have any cavities and to examine the quality of existing fillings.
The dental hygienist will then perform a periodontal exam to make sure your gums adhere tightly to your teeth, and no periodontal disease or bone loss may be occurring.
Next, your hygienist will carefully clean your teeth with a variety of tools to remove any hard mineral buildup (tartar) from your teeth.
Then your hygienist will floss your teeth, use a polishing compound, and apply fluoride.
Cleanings usually aren’t painful, but if you have any anxiety about your dental exam, be sure to let your hygienist know.
They may offer several sedation options to ensure your comfort.
If your dentist or hygienist finds tooth decay or gum disease, they will talk to you about changing your brushing or flossing habits.
In severe cases, they may recommend antibiotics or other dental treatments.
If your teeth and gums appear to be healthy, your dentist will probably recommend that you continue your brushing and flossing routine as usual.

The professionalism and friendliness of the whole team is outstanding. During the appointment process, Lindsay was patient with me and answered all my questions. She went above and beyond to call me back and help coordinate the specialist appointment I needed. Overall, Dr. Strupp and Dr. Brumm made me feel comfortable, attended to and part of the process. Not only did they discuss the options for my treatment plan, but they truly listened to my needs and concerns when making a decision. I am relieved to have them part of my dental team and confident that the outcome will be the very best. Thank you! - 3/08/2023read moreread lessMike D.
I am a Dentist and needed some cosmetic work. Dr Strupp and Brumm are world class!!! I have learned so much from them (they teach other dentists how to do the highest quality dentistry) and follow their same protocols in my practice. If you are looking for a great dentist, Dr. Strupp and Brumm are as good as they get! - 12/21/2020read moreread lessMegan G.
I'm very grateful to have meet Dr. Brumm and his lovely assistant, Kim. I came to them both in really rough dental shape, compiled with one of the most severe cases of dental anxiety imaginable. Not the ideal combo.Kim is literally my angel on earth. I truly don't think I would have gotten through the process without her. Until I met her, I've never a dental or medical professional actually and truly care about me. But with Kim, my victories are her victories, my struggles are her struggles as well. She's been there for me at every step, literally and figuratively holding my hand. I constantly give her a side eye, but I appreciate that even on the darkest of days, she never loses hope that one day I might truly be able to grin from ear to ear without being ashamed.Dr. Brumm is a little tougher than Kim ;). But what I truly appreciate about him, is how reasonable and incredibly patient he is. We may not always/never agree, but I appreciate that he always hears me out and does so in a gentle manner. His actual dental work is TOP-NOTCH. It was absolutely painless - and with red hair in my family history, he had to do a lot of novacaine shots. I will never love a dentist, but I really really LIKE him, a whole lot. (I can't ever say this directly to him, because it'll get to his head haha)I've had limited interactions with his partner, Dr Strupp. He wasn't the best fit for me and I don't think I'd recommend him for anyone with any level of anxiety esp if Brumm is available. But I'm sure, he's a great fit for other patients.#teamkim #teambrumm - 1/11/2020read moreread lessHolly H.

Penny is my hygienist. Always a pleasant experience. I have referred my Friends, Clients and Family to them. Hands down the best in the area!! - 1/11/2020read moreread less

He is the dentist's dentist. Dentists fly in from all over to see Dr. Strupp because his precision work is the best, uncanny really. Not by accident is he the cosmetic dentist for the New York Yankees. His associate Dr Blumm is also outstanding. Everyone at this office is always professional, courteous and friendly.
Recommended most highly!

I highly recommend Dr. Strupp and Dr. Brumm and their office staff, as a patient of Dr. Strupp for over 35 years. Dr. Strupp and Dr. Brumm continue to provide their extensive professional experience in dentistry. I just had a dental cleaning by dental hygienist, Lisa, on 6/4/2020, during Phase 1 of the Covid-19 pandemic. Lisa provided exceptional dental cleaning experience, as always! She demonstrated the office procedures in place that are strictly followed that reassure both their patients and the office employees provide a safe environment to prevent the spread of the Covid-19. Greatly appreciated! - 6/05/2020

I started going to Strupp 5 years ago. When i look at the before pictures, I cant believe i waited so long. He builds beautiful teeth and now i smile a lot more. Bill has done alot of work for the NY Yankees and its not uncommon to see Steinbrenners family in the office. Everyone is nice and friendly. The only negative is that they bill you up front and submit the paper work to your insurance to get reimbursed but i think thats normal these days. - 1/24/2013
