Preventing Problems Before They Start
The health of your teeth and mouth is very important to the well-being of your entire body, and while routine brushing and flossing at home is necessary to keep your smile looking its best, visiting your dentist for a comprehensive exam and cleaning is essential.
The American Dental Association recommends that you visit your dentist every six months to ensure your teeth stay healthy and your smile stays beautiful.
By routinely seeing your dentist for exams and cleanings, you can:
- Prevent tooth decay, gum disease, and bad breath
- Save money by avoiding costly and extensive dental procedures
- Keep your teeth white by reducing staining from food and drinks
- Shorten the time spent in your dentist’s office
- Have a smile that will last a lifetime
The Exam
During your exam, your dentist will thoroughly examine your teeth and gums for signs of tooth decay, gum disease, and other health problems.
Your dentist may also want to take X-rays to see what is happening beneath the surface of your teeth and gums.
Whether these X-rays are traditional or digital, the images provided will help your dentist discover dental issues not visible to the naked eye.
Professional Cleanings
Your dental hygienist will begin your cleaning by exploring the surface of your teeth to determine if you have any cavities and to examine the quality of existing fillings.
The dental hygienist will then perform a periodontal exam to make sure your gums adhere tightly to your teeth, and no periodontal disease or bone loss may be occurring.
Next, your hygienist will carefully clean your teeth with a variety of tools to remove any hard mineral buildup (tartar) from your teeth.
Then your hygienist will floss your teeth, use a polishing compound, and apply fluoride.
Cleanings usually aren’t painful, but if you have any anxiety about your dental exam, be sure to let your hygienist know.
They may offer several sedation options to ensure your comfort.
If your dentist or hygienist finds tooth decay or gum disease, they will talk to you about changing your brushing or flossing habits.
In severe cases, they may recommend antibiotics or other dental treatments.
If your teeth and gums appear to be healthy, your dentist will probably recommend that you continue your brushing and flossing routine as usual.

Jimmy P.Excellent practice. They are taking extra protection during the Covid-19 crisis and most important, top of the line quality with skills. I feel they really care about the health of my teeth and they go out of their way to make sure things are done right. Cannot recommend them enough. - 7/11/2020read moreread less
Deanna L.Was having rework on a bad dental treatment that started in 2017 in New York but due to an unexpected move to Florida the treatment ended in the office of Drs. Stupp and Brumm in May 2022 with a full restoration of the upper arch. I could not be more thankful and blessed to have moved to Florida and found this AMAZING office. From the moment you walk into the office, you can tell you are in the right place, never a wait, and are treated like family. You are greeted by Lyndsay who is so easy to work with and on top of any request that comes her way. The WHOLE assistant team is terrific and work with the doctors seamlessly but Alicia has my heart. She has been there with me throughout the process and ensured I was happy and comfortable. She has a lot of experience and you can see that by having her by your side. Dr. Strupp and Dr. Brumm are the best of the best, perfectionists and have so much experience in making people happy but they are the most friendly and down-to-earth people which makes me love them even more. Last but definitely not least is Jim - the artist! Jim is a master at his craft and so fun to work with. He takes the time to listen and then works his magic! Jim makes perfect teeth - perfect for each person 🙂 I am beyond happy with my new smile. After 5 years, I finally look at myself in the mirror and feel like myself again. I will forever be grateful to the whole office at Strupp and Brumm and would recommend them over and over again.
**Update** Continuing cleanings with Billie Jo and she is the best! Not only does she get my smile nice and bright again.... I love our conversations 🙂 - 11/02/2022read moreread less
Avila Z.The best dentist office by far! Lisa one of the hygienists has been cleaning my teeth for a few years and she is the BEST! She is so meticulous and detailed and always checks to make sure I am comfortable throughout the cleaning. My mom was a dental hygienist so I have high standards and Lisa really is the best. My husband and I live in St Pete and we drive to Clearwater because they are that good. Professional, clean, great service! - 3/05/2021read moreread less
James C.I have been a patient for over ten years and the outstanding service speaks for itself. From the assistants all up the way up through the doctors, this is a one of a kind practice and experience. If you haven't been there yet, give it a shot, the rest will take care of itself. - 1/11/2017read moreread less

They do a wonderful job, very friendly staff and always make us feel relaxed and comfortable. I have been taking my daughter here since she was 2 and she is excited to go every time. They are gentle with her and allow me in the room during her cleanings. They are the best I have ever used and they set the bar high for all dental practices. - 9/18/2019 read moreread less

I highly recommend Dr. Strupp and Dr. Brumm and their office staff, as a patient of Dr. Strupp for over 35 years. Dr. Strupp and Dr. Brumm continue to provide their extensive professional experience in dentistry. I just had a dental cleaning by dental hygienist, Lisa, on 6/4/2020, during Phase 1 of the Covid-19 pandemic. Lisa provided exceptional dental cleaning experience, as always! She demonstrated the office procedures in place that are strictly followed that reassure both their patients and the office employees provide a safe environment to prevent the spread of the Covid-19. Greatly appreciated! - 6/05/2020 read moreread less

My wife has been going here for years. Despite the high price tag, the work is excellent so it's worth having her fly back whenever she needs something done rather than trying to find someone new. Some work like fillings are medically necessary and the work holds up years longer than other places. Some work like veneers are more for cosmetics and not medically indicated but are beautiful. Dr. Strupp is an artist in that regard. - 6/04/2013 read moreread less
