The Exam

During your exam, your dentist will thoroughly examine your teeth and gums for signs of tooth decay, gum disease, and other health problems.

Whether these X-rays are traditional or digital, the images provided will help your dentist discover dental issues not visible to the naked eye.

Professional Cleanings

Your dental hygienist will begin your cleaning by exploring the surface of your teeth to determine if you have any cavities and to examine the quality of existing fillings.

The dental hygienist will then perform a periodontal exam to make sure your gums adhere tightly to your teeth, and no periodontal disease or bone loss may be occurring.

Next, your hygienist will carefully clean your teeth with a variety of tools to remove any hard mineral buildup (tartar) from your teeth.

Then your hygienist will floss your teeth, use a polishing compound, and apply fluoride.

Cleanings usually aren’t painful, but if you have any anxiety about your dental exam, be sure to let your hygienist know.

They may offer several sedation options to ensure your comfort.

If your dentist or hygienist finds tooth decay or gum disease, they will talk to you about changing your brushing or flossing habits.

In severe cases, they may recommend antibiotics or other dental treatments.

If your teeth and gums appear to be healthy, your dentist will probably recommend that you continue your brushing and flossing routine as usual.

I am a periodontist and have had the opportunity to see the treatment provided by hundreds of restorative dentists. Without a doubt, Dr. Bill Strupp and Dr. Mike Brumm are the best. Their attention to detail is unparalleled. While insurance companies give the average life span of a crown to be 5 to 7 years, Dr. Strupp and Brumm’s crowns look as good 30 years down the road as the day that they were placed. I know this from having worked with their team for the past 30 years. There is a reason that a large component of their practice is treating dentists from around the world and that they are the team dentists for the New York Yankees. He is the dentist's dentist. Dentists fly in from all over to see Dr. Strupp because his precision work is the best, uncanny really. Not by accident is he the cosmetic dentist for the New York Yankees. His associate Dr Blumm is also outstanding. Everyone at this office is always professional, courteous and friendly.

I started going to Strupp 5 years ago. When i look at the before pictures, I cant believe i waited so long. He builds beautiful teeth and now i smile a lot more. Bill has done alot of work for the NY Yankees and its not uncommon to see Steinbrenners family in the office. Everyone is nice and friendly. The only negative is that they bill you up front and submit the paper work to your insurance to get reimbursed but i think thats normal these days. - 1/24/2013
