Preventing Problems Before They Start
The health of your teeth and mouth is very important to the well-being of your entire body, and while routine brushing and flossing at home is necessary to keep your smile looking its best, visiting your dentist for a comprehensive exam and cleaning is essential.
The American Dental Association recommends that you visit your dentist every six months to ensure your teeth stay healthy and your smile stays beautiful.
By routinely seeing your dentist for exams and cleanings, you can:
- Prevent tooth decay, gum disease, and bad breath
- Save money by avoiding costly and extensive dental procedures
- Keep your teeth white by reducing staining from food and drinks
- Shorten the time spent in your dentist’s office
- Have a smile that will last a lifetime
The Exam
During your exam, your dentist will thoroughly examine your teeth and gums for signs of tooth decay, gum disease, and other health problems.
Your dentist may also want to take X-rays to see what is happening beneath the surface of your teeth and gums.
Whether these X-rays are traditional or digital, the images provided will help your dentist discover dental issues not visible to the naked eye.
Professional Cleanings
Your dental hygienist will begin your cleaning by exploring the surface of your teeth to determine if you have any cavities and to examine the quality of existing fillings.
The dental hygienist will then perform a periodontal exam to make sure your gums adhere tightly to your teeth, and no periodontal disease or bone loss may be occurring.
Next, your hygienist will carefully clean your teeth with a variety of tools to remove any hard mineral buildup (tartar) from your teeth.
Then your hygienist will floss your teeth, use a polishing compound, and apply fluoride.
Cleanings usually aren’t painful, but if you have any anxiety about your dental exam, be sure to let your hygienist know.
They may offer several sedation options to ensure your comfort.
If your dentist or hygienist finds tooth decay or gum disease, they will talk to you about changing your brushing or flossing habits.
In severe cases, they may recommend antibiotics or other dental treatments.
If your teeth and gums appear to be healthy, your dentist will probably recommend that you continue your brushing and flossing routine as usual.

I’ve been going to Strupp and Brumm for years there the best! - 12/14/2020read moreread lessLucy T.
Dr. Brumm provided a second opinion on work that I need to have completed. I found Dr Brumm extremely knowledge and pleasant. Both Dr. Brumm and his assistant, Sandy, listened carefully to my concerns and then he provided me with a different approach to correcting my problem. I feel very confident that if he completes the work, it would be done correctly. - 11/04/2020read moreread lessMarie B.
Everyone in this office is friendly, professional, knowledgeable, and provides the highest caliber services. I've known a few of them since 1982 and wouldn't use anyone else. - 9/11/2020read moreread lessReb S.
World-class quality of care from hygienist (Lisa) to Dr. Brumm's painless injections to Dr. Strupp's diagnosis and treatment plans. Not sure what I would have done if Drs. Strupp & Brumm hadn't fixed my crowns, veneers, and underlying health issues. Thanks so much! I'll keep coming from Europe for check ins. - 1/11/2020read moreread less

I highly recommend Dr. Strupp and Dr. Brumm and their office staff, as a patient of Dr. Strupp for over 35 years. Dr. Strupp and Dr. Brumm continue to provide their extensive professional experience in dentistry. I just had a dental cleaning by dental hygienist, Lisa, on 6/4/2020, during Phase 1 of the Covid-19 pandemic. Lisa provided exceptional dental cleaning experience, as always! She demonstrated the office procedures in place that are strictly followed that reassure both their patients and the office employees provide a safe environment to prevent the spread of the Covid-19. Greatly appreciated! - 6/05/2020

I started going to Strupp 5 years ago. When i look at the before pictures, I cant believe i waited so long. He builds beautiful teeth and now i smile a lot more. Bill has done alot of work for the NY Yankees and its not uncommon to see Steinbrenners family in the office. Everyone is nice and friendly. The only negative is that they bill you up front and submit the paper work to your insurance to get reimbursed but i think thats normal these days. - 1/24/2013
